Evolution of Technology

Our lives run on technology, hardware, or software, it’s something we have come to rely on to function. In a relatively short space of time technology has exploded in the market and now, many people cannot imagine a life without it. Think of the last time you left your phone at home and headed off to work for the day, I bet you can feel the frustration and annoyance even now.

Would you have felt that way pre-smartphone? Probably not. Back when mobile phones were just that, a portable communication device, its presence had a negligible impact on your daily life. Now with everything from bank cards to task lists to shopping right in the palms of our hands, it can be easy to forget how far that technology has come.

Technological evolution is happening at such a rapid pace it can be easy to get swept up in the rapids, at Mindsett we wanted to take a step back and appreciate how much our technology has evolved over the past few years.

Our remote asset monitor has been through many iterations from the not-so-sleek first generation right through to the current compact, modern PRISM monitor.

First Generation

We think it is safe to say that the first generation of our asset monitor was most definitely built for functionality over aesthetics. While this version had the capability to monitor over 50 channels it simply was too large to comfortably fit a site’s distribution board along with its protective cover. Our team had to rework the device to be more compact but most importantly retain its functionality.

Second Generation

The second iteration of our asset monitor without question smaller, however visually that might look like the only difference to most. We reduced the number of channels that the device can monitor from 50+ to 36. Our trials showed us that the previous number of channels was not needed as most sites will have multiple distribution boards, so rather than a large device with more terminals than necessary, we reduced the size and simply installed multiple devices.

PRISM

Now to the present-day version of our monitor, the re-designed modern and compact PRISM device. We loved the functionality of the second monitor but visually it didn’t do much, for us or our customers. We were very aware that these devices were not always hidden away in some back room. Depending on the site the PRISM monitor would be in full view and the aim was to create a device that blended seamlessly with its surroundings.

Our current device can give detailed asset-level insights into a site’s energy consumption. We can tell you with incredible accuracy which of your assets are consuming the most energy and how to reduce consumption. At a time when energy prices are at an all-time high, this can be an invaluable cost-saving measure.

Reducing energy consumption will also contribute to your organisation’s net-zero initiatives. We are understanding more and more that the use of offsetting and renewables are temporary and finite measures, reducing our usage is the only way we can ensure there is enough resource to go around.

With the pace of technological evolution, it can be hard to find the time to reflect on the progress that has been made. We are extremely proud of the hardware and software advancements we have made, and no doubt will continue to make. You can get more detailed information on the newest iteration of our monitor here.
